Daphne Best, the daughter of Les Best, doing the washing at Grandma Best’s home. This was the era of the bush clothes prop (before the invention of Hills hoists). The bush clothes prop was a long (2.5-metre) tree branch, with a vee at the top, used to prop up a clothesline.
