From the end of World War II in 1945, many displaced persons (declared stateless) spent long periods in Camps. On the 5th August 1948, men departed from Hanover to board ship at Vollen Bosfal, leaving wives and children to follow. At that time Australia was not accepting families with more than one child. MARIA DOWGAI (NEE YURCHENKO) From War’s end in 1945, Maria, her husband Jack and young daughter Vera, travelled as “displaced persons’ through a series of Camps in Germany and Europe. On 5th August, 1948 Jack was sent to Australia by officials. Maria and Vera left Naples on 17th March 1949 and arrived in Melbourne on 13 April 1949.
