View from Payne Road in the late 1930s near the Campbell residence and looking outbound. The Best homestead and farm buildings can be seen at the crest of the hill on the right hand side of the road. Paten Road is visible running off to the left.
Payne Road 1930s
Daphne Best, the daughter of Les Best, doing the washing at Grandma Best’s home. This was the era of the bush clothes prop (before the invention of Hills hoists). The bush clothes prop was a long (2.5-metre) tree branch, with a vee at the top, used to prop up a clothesline.
